1928   Auto Red Bug

We have had some very unusual "horseless carriages" here over the last 32 years, but this may rank number one! Owned by the same New Jersey based family since new, this was fully made operational again by Francis Warwick, of Lea Francis Automotive here in West Palm Beach. One of approximately 150 remaining, these were produced in Bergen, New Jersey and this is serial number 4919. You will find examples of these in some of the finest private and museum collections in the world, and yes, it most certainly does run! Just when you thought your collection was complete…

1929   Ford Model A Phaeton

Brighter trim and body colors greeted 1929 along with being the first year for external door handles for "open" Model A's. This four passenger model sold new in 1929 for $460.00, which is $10.00 more than the least expensive Ford of that year. This is the first 1929 Ford Phaeton that we recall ever offering although we have sold countless Model A's, and this one runs very well...and has for 83 years! If you are looking to have a piece of American automotive history that is very affordable, please consider this one. The distinct sound of a Model A's 24 horsepower inline 4 is one the sweetest sounds ever to come from a man made machine!

1940   LaSalle Series 50 Convertible

This is the last year LaSalle was produced and this particular one is what we call an “alumni.” We have offered it before and are delighted to have it back! This is also the only year the headlights are integrated into the fenders. Powered by the 322 CI 8 cylinder, with a three speed synchromesh transmission, this is a beautifully designed end of an era “classic” automobile.

1940   LaSalle Series 50 Sedan

This is the perfect LaSalle to use for weddings due to its updated 12 Volt system, which accomodates the air conditioning necessary for the bride and grooms’ special ride! Finished in black with original style grey cloth interior and three speed transmission, this is the last year for the LaSalle, a division of Cadillac. It was built to last and it has for over 72 years. It just proves the adage..."if you take care of it, it will take care of you!"

1941   Buick Super Eight

We have what we call an "alumni" program here at Ragtops and this one has just returned from a fifteen year vacation to the Orlando area. Last of the Buick Phaetons, this is finished in black, with dark red leather interior and a tan canvas soft top. After not being used much in the last two years, there are some very minor things to be addressed, but nothing that can't easily be done. The three speed transmission is quite smooth, the brakes are responsive and the twin carburetors power this four door, six passenger Phaeton effortlessly. This Buick is so stylish that it makes you wonder why we can’t produce an equivalent today.

These are perfect beach-mobiles and Ragtops’ has had several over the years. This automobile has recently been refurbished, including the motor. It is powered by the durable four cylinder coupled to a three speed on the tree transmission, and has the really old-fashion floor starter. This is the top of the line for the Packard 200 series. It is an actual 38,000 original mile Packard and an AACA national Senior award winner. Powered by the 288 ci straight 8 with 135 hp, this is highly optioned. This automobile has whitewall tires, heater and defroster, fender skirts full wheel covers, a two tone finish, automatic transmission and of course the pelican hood ornament.

1954   Ford Courier Sedan Delivery

This is one of our Alumni although it never made it to our location in Palm Beach. We purchased it in Carlisle, PA in the fall of 2007 and now it has arrived on our door step, and we are glad to offer it to you! Finished in a correct light blue with brown two front seats, the passenger side folds up for easy access to the rear, this is a really cool vehicle. Powered by the Y motor V-8, three speed manual transmission, and period “throaty” mufflers, this is a hoot to drive. It even has its original grey wood flooring in the rear area and the back door is hinged on one side. It has newer wide white wall tires, one small ding on the left rear upper fender, which was there in 2007 and we immediately slapped one of our magnetic signs on the side and took it for a long ride!! It is perfect to use for advertising your business, a surf wagon, or just a great collectible antique "truck." We don’t expect it to stay here long!

1954   Nash Healy

From 1950 to 1955, Nash Healy produced just 512 examples with the last 90 being coupes like we offer here. Finished in arctic white with red leather, powered by the Nash 235 cubic inch Nash six cylinder, coupled to a three speed manual transmission, the Nash Healy’s were surprisingly quick. Just serviced by Lea Francis, this wonderful find is ready to be enjoyed.

This beautiful Crown Victoria was treated to an $8,000 “touch up” by the Palm Beach Garage once the owner brought the car home. The engine compartment is detailed for show, the tires are as new and this is one that looks as if it just rolled off the showroom floor!

1958   Edsel Pacer Convertible

Conceived as an entirely new product line for Ford Motor Company, the Edsel was introduced in 1957 as a 1958 model. Ford intended to have the Edsel fill a niche that was being filled by companies such as Buick, Oldsmobile and to some extent Chrysler, with their New Yorker models. Edsel was produced for just three years and the experiment ended when projected sales never materialized. This convertible is one of just 914 ever made, and the Pacer model is the second level of the three levels offered with the Ranger and Citation being the other two. Finished in turquoise and white with matching interior and white vinyl top, it is powered by the reliable 361 V-8. Also equipped with automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes and power top, this truly is a part of American automotive history. A very rare collectible whose value potential has not been reached yet.

1963   Ford Thunderbird Convertible

This is a true roadster and just scored 262 out of 300 points at a Thunderbird meet. These are among the most beautiful of the sixties automobiles and this one is striking. Powered by the 390, it is fully optioned right down to the tilt away steering wheel. Leather interior has been added, and the top relay system has been upgraded, even to the point of having had an over ride system installed in the unlikely case that one of the relays balks at operating. The tonneau is of course removable to provide seating for four, but we feel this is the way it should be drive, top down with wild abandon.

1967   Chevrolet Corvette Convertible

This is the last year for what enthusiasts refer to as the mid-years. Completely rebuilt several years ago by the Palm Beach Garage, this numbers matching 327/300 hp, four speed transmission is capable of leaving on a cross country trip today if you so desire. The original exterior is goodwood green and the saddle interior and top. The weakest point to this particular ‘67 is that it could use paint on the hood and fenders. It is in wonderful condition as it sits, but if you want to spruce it up, you may want considering having it refinished.

1969   Ambassador SST Sedan

This is the top of the line for AMC and has a very unique history. It was actually chauffeur driven to a prospective buyer’s home for a test drive to show how luxurious it was. In fact, it truly was, much more than its competitor’s offerings. Powered by the optional 342 ci 235 hp V-8, it is equipped with power steering, power brakes, tilt wheel and cold factory air conditioning. Only two owners since 1969, this is a time warp automobile that should provide excellent service for another 44 years.

1977   Ferrari 308 GTB -- SOLD

This was sold by us around 1990 for $55,000 to a great friend of ours. Over the years it was maintained and serviced which added an additional approx $20,000 to the cost of ownership. Being that he was a pilot, he always paid attention to the details. It was used sparingly the last six years, was carefully serviced by Lea Francis recently and is in good running order. It does however need a muffler system, the interior could use a little attention and the ‘cam’ service has not been done. This is a car that we all will be kicking ourselves for not buying five years from now.

1988   Avanti Convertible

This is a Raymond Lowery design that was first introduced as a 1963 Coupe by Studebaker. This particular Avanti convertible, one of less than 100 ever made, was produced in Youngstown, Ohio when Avanti was owned by the Cafareo family. This is a one owner Avanti and has been in the Ragtops Motorcars collection for over 12 years. Powered by the Chevrolet 305 High Output engine, it has all options including power soft top, factory air conditioning, leather interior and more. Totally fiberglass, this is truly a timeless design, and the ultimate head turner!

1994   Mercedes Benz E 320 Cabriolet

This is a one owner Mercedes E-320, one of the last of the "hand-built" Mercedes convertibles. Only produced for three years, these have become very collectible due to their size and reliability. Finished in emerald green with beige leather and a newer dark brown clothtop, this was just serviced and is ready for you to enjoy! Over $81,000 when purchased new, these hold four comfortably and retain the distinctive Mercedes look that sometimes is lost on the newer models!
